The California Society for Ghost Research (CSGR) was founded on August 9, 2002, by
Chad Patterson, former SGVPR Co Director. CSGR is an open-minded, science based
paranormal research organization. We believe in ruling out natural causes first, before
seeking paranormal explanations in any case. With an emphasis in ghostly
phenomena CSGR investigates many types of locations where such activity has been
reported. CSGR applies detective based methods to our investigations, seeking all
types of evidence suggesting a location is haunted. Equipment in our investigations
include EMF Detectors, IR Thermometers, Geiger Counters, Sony Camcorders w/night
shot, digital and audio cassette recorders w/external microphone, and 35 MM
Camera's with different types of film. We also believe that true psychics are a
valuable tool in paranormal investigation and research. If psychic abilities and
findings are applied to research in an organized manner, they can be and are
corroborated by technological findings.
Above all we feel that investigators "themselves," are the most useful tool in
investigation. Handheld tools, and other technological devices are only as useful as
the investigator that wields them. We believe in training our members in investigative
protocol, proper ethics, equipment use, spirit photography, and standard research
methods before ever exposing them to a private residence, or business.
CSGR is strictly nonprofit. We do not charge for our services, but accept donations in
any amount for those wishing to contribute to our cause. Our existence is solely to
study paranormal phenomena, aid those needing our services dealing with hauntings,
and to further seek evidence contributing to the acceptance of the paranormal field by
mainstream science. We consider ourselves professional, and hold our credibility and
the privacy of others in the highest regard. Confidentiality is our first priority for those
wishing to keep their cases from public knowledge. Also, if we are permitted to
publish information regarding investigations of private locations we keep names, and
addresses confidential unless given permission to do otherwise. We are here to serve
the public, and provide a service to the paranormal field. We want to be
recommended to as many people as possible. Fame, fortune, and glory do not exist in
our priorities.
The research of ghosts and the paranormal is still very much in the dark. This is why
we feel an open mind is mandatory for this realm of study. The Paranormal Field has
come a long way in the last twenty years due to the advancement of technology, and
the willingness of many to accept the fact that science, at this point, is far from having
the means to explain the universe in its entirety. Science is discovery. Many people
fear what they do not understand because they can not explain, replicate, or label it.
We feel that the paranormal field is within the scientific frontier simply because
"science is discovery." Science is about taking one step at a time towards the
common goal of "understanding, knowledge, and wisdom." Just because humankind
cannot fully explain something, does not mean it is nonexistent. What exists within
the universe will continue to do so, with or without our understanding. Encounters
with ghosts, and other types of unexplainable phenomena have been with humankind
since the beginning of recorded history. Though the study of paranormal phenomena
has been with us for centuries, the dawn of technology has given us a means of
collecting, and recording evidence that the paranormal exists. A large percentage of
cases can be ruled out with natural explanations, but there are many that cannot. As
technology continues to progress, science will also continue to move forward. Our
knowledge, and understanding of the unexplainable will also advance. There is more
to life beyond our five physical senses. More to our existence as human beings then
our understanding of the physical realm. We at CSGR feel that concrete evidence of
"life after death," is the light that will illuminate the darkness paranormal researchers
have been "feeling their way through" since the dawn of paranormal study.
