The following devices are actual equipment used in CSGR investigations. I have included
a description of each device, and how it can be applied to ghost research. If anyone is
interested in buying any of this equipment, I have included several links at the bottom
where most can be purchased.

The Trifield Natural EMF Detector (by Alphalab): probably the best affordable EMF detector
money can buy, especially for the investigator with a budget. Originally designed to measure
geomagnetic storms, and has since been adapted for paranormal research. It is designed to
drown out artificial or man-made fields, and measure natural magnetic and electric fields. This
EMF detector can be used as a mobile device, but is best used stationary due to it's extreme
sesitivity. When using it as a stationary device remember to wait at least 30 to 35 seconds after
it is turned on to start taking readings. Also, I have found the sum setting to be most useful.
This setting reads both magnetic, and static electricity readings. Note: because of the device's
extreme sensitivity it can pick up on the EMFof the living, as well as paranormal anomalies. It
can also be thrown off during an electrical storm, or when in close vicinity of a high voltage
power source. I do not recommend this device for the beginner, but for those with experience
using EMF detectors. It takes a large amount of practice know and use this meter correctly.

A good flashlight is an essential tool in any investigator's arsenal. My personal
favorites are surefire and mag-lite. I do not think I have to go into detail why a
flashlight may be of use in paranormal research. If you're in a dark location it is
nice to be able to view your surroundings, and to see your equipment. I included
the red filter as an extra, handy for debunking hoaxes in that it makes it easier
to see invisible beams, or other such man-made elements.

The Fieldtester 200A (by AW Sperry): I strongly recommend this model for the beginning ghost
hunter or researcher because of its easy to read digital screen (reads from 0.1 to 199.9
milligauss), affordability, and its use as a mobile EMF detector. When using this model
remember to hold it by the end, away from the sensor itself, and move it slowly in a side to side
motion. Remember it is important to move it slowly, otherwise the meter may produce false
readings. This meter has to pass through EMF's to read them. I would also recommend anyone
purchasing this model (like any piece of equipment) to practice with it and get to know how it
works at home, before taking it out to use it. This is just common sense. By doing this one will
discover the readings of household appliances which tend to be higher and more constant then
suspected paranormal readings. On this model paranormal readings are suspect between the
ranges of 2.0 and 8.0 milligauss. There is little to back up this theory, but I have witnessed
potential paranormal readings that usually tend to fall in this range. Appliance or electrical
readings can reflect this same scale, but are typically fluctuate on a higher scale. From my
experience, in locations haunted by intelligent entities, the paranormal energy is very moble.
This simply means if one gets potential paranormal readings first look for any natural causes
(common sense), then if none are found document the readings, and return to that same area
after a short period of time. Chances are if the paranormal energy is moble, the readings will
have ceased in that specific area.

Geiger Counters: Geiger Counters are some of the most useful instruments for measuring
specific gamma-radiation levels of haunted locations. It has been noted in some cases that
entities, or intense paranormal energy have a specific effect on the radiation levels of a haunted
location, either by ncreasing or possibly decreasing those levels. Geiger Counters have also
been used in UFO research.
IR Thermometers: A device no paranormal investigator or ghost hunter should be without. The
IR Thermometer is useful for taking temperature readings in haunted locations. Temperature is
an extremely big part of paranormal research. Hauntings almost always come with types of
temperature changes in areas experiencing activity; hence, cold spots and warm spots alike. It
is also great to know the actual temperature of each location, to note in your investigation
report. There are many dependable and affordable models on the market. This particular
model 42520 (by Extech) has an optic range of about 6.1, and for accurate readings should not
be used to measure temperature any further then six feet. This model ranges from 0 to 600
degrees f, or-20 to 320 degree C. Another reason I prefer this model is that it comes equipped
with a backlit display making it readable in extremely dark locations.

Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 QD: I prefer this particular model of 35MM camera
because of its small size that makes it easy to carry. It also comes equipped with seven
different flash seetings to customize your flash to the amount of light offered by your
surroundings. One important thing to remember when selecting a 35 MM camera is to
make sure it comes equipment with a night flash mode, or has manually adjustable
shutter speeds to photograph dark locations. Olympus cameras are a personal
preference of mine due to their quality, but there are many dependable brands of 35 MM
zoom cameras on the market today. Remember to select the right type of film for
shooting in a specific location. For dark locations I would go no lower then 800 sp.
film, and when indoors, or outdoors select no lower then 400 sp. film.

The E2 Executive (by Surefire); Surefire flash lights are high quality, high powered flash lights.
This small E2 executive model, with a power output of 60 lumens, has the same illumination
capabilities as the 5 D sized battery mag-lite above. The two 3 volt lithium batteries in the E2
model have up to 75 minutes of extreme illumination. The reason I include this flashlight, is
because when conducting research it is sometimes more compatible to have a small, light
weight flashlight to see your instuments. Surefire flashlights also have different colored
filters available.
Additional CSGR Equipment Notes:
Audio Recording Devices: There are many different models of audio recording devices on the market. When
selecting an audio cassette recording device for EVP (electronic voice phenomena) it is important to remember
to use an external microphone. The reason being is that internal microphones will pick up the internal sounds
of gears, which will contaminate and undermine the credibility of the evidence. If you are using a digital
recorder for EVP, there are also many suitable models, but remember the EVP you might get can not be
considered as credible evidence, because there is no direct or hard evidence, in this case no cassette tape.
Digital recorders are also great for note taking, and interviewing witnesses.
Digital Cameras: There are many suitable models of digital camera on the market today, but it is important to
note that digital cameras have only one specific purpose in paranormal research. They are to be used to
immediatly document a location, and take a series of still photos. By taking a series of stills, one can note
areas of specific patterns of anomalous activity. One can use a digital camera to monitor orb activity, but
remember there must be some light with most digital cameras, otherwise the lack of pixels can produce false
orbs. With digital cameras this is easy to do. Also, it is important to know that when conducting research it is
good to have a 35 MM camera alongside a digital, because digital photos cannot be used as evidence of the
paranormal. There is no negative available to be analyzed, and proven legitimate in a lab.
Links to Equipment Purchase:
Sony Hi-8 Cam Corders: There are many dependable brands and models of video camera out there. As with still
cameras it is always important to remember that the camera comes equipped for functioning properly in dark
locations. Sony, in my opinion, is the elite choice for selecting a video cam corder for paranormal research.
One can count on Sony's high standard picture, and recording quality. Each sony hi-8 also comes equipped
with a night shot (0 lux) setting that gives one up to 8 feet of night vision in complete pitch blackness.
